1. A method of preparing a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery, comprising:
preparing a lithium metal oxide particle; and
cleaning the lithium metal oxide particle using a washing solution that includes an organic poly-phosphate compound or an organic poly-phosphonate compound,
wherein the cathode active material comprises the lithium metal oxide particle and a coating layer including the organic poly-phosphate compound or the organic poly-phosphonate compound,
wherein the organic poly-phosphate is represented by Structural Formula 1 below, and the organic poly-phosphonate is represented by Structural Formula 2 below:
![]() wherein, in the Structural Formulae 1 and 2 above, m is an integer from 2 to 20, and R1 represents an unsubstituted C1-C10 hydrocarbon group or a C1-C10 hydrocarbon group substituted with a substituent group, and the substituent group includes halogen, a cyano group, a hydroxyl group, a phosphoric acid group, a carboxylic group or a salt thereof.
