1. A kit comprising:
an isotopic composition comprising a plurality of metal atoms of a single isotope of a metal, wherein:
the isotopic composition does not comprise a natural mixture of isotopes, and the plurality of metal atoms is non-radioactive;
a fluorescent label;
an affinity reagent; and
an element tag comprising a linear or branched polymer comprising a plurality of chelating groups, wherein each chelating group of the element tag includes at least one metal atom of the isotopic composition or is capable of binding at least one metal atom of the isotopic composition,
wherein:
the polymer is a homopolymer or copolymer, and
the polymer is a result of synthesis selected from the group consisting of reversible addition fragmentation polymerization (RAFT), atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and anionic polymerization, and
wherein the element tag and the fluorescent label are covalently attached to the affinity reagent.
