1. A process for making an organoselenium compound, comprising reacting a diselenide compound of the formula:
![]() with R—Br in the presence of ethanol, NaBH4, and N2 to obtain a compound of the formula:

each X is the same and is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, or bromine; and
R is ethyl or phenethyl, wherein the organoselenium compound is selected from the group consisting of:
