1. A brake system for a vehicle, the vehicle having a controller, the brake system comprising:
a first electric power supply unit;
a first electronic brake control unit connected to the first electric power supply unit;
a second electric power supply unit;
a second electronic brake control unit connected to the second electric power supply unit;
a first axle pressure modulator for service brake chambers associated with a first axle of the vehicle;
a second axle pressure modulator for spring brake cylinders associated with a second axle of the vehicle;
two power supply switches, wherein a first one of the power supply switches is connected to the first electronic brake control unit, wherein a second one of the two power supply switches is connected to the second electronic brake control unit; and
a monitoring device connected to a first service brake subsystem and a second service brake subsystem for monitoring and detecting a malfunction of the first service brake subsystem and/or the second service brake subsystem, wherein the monitoring device outputs an error signal to the controller when the malfunction is detected;
wherein the first electronic brake control unit is electrically connected to the first axle pressure modulator via a first digital electric signal line, wherein the first electronic brake control unit is electrically connected to the second axle pressure modulator via a second digital electric signal line, and
the second electronic brake control unit is electrically connected to the first axle pressure modulator via a third digital electric signal line, wherein the second electronic brake control unit is electrically connected to the second axle pressure modulator via a fourth digital electric signal line, and
wherein each of the power supply switches is configured for selecting one of the electric power supply units for one of the axle pressure modulators.
