1. A method for modifying an aspect of a linear substrate within a device filled with a modifying fluid, the method comprising:
providing the device filled with the modifying fluid comprising additives;
receiving the linear substrate at a feed speed;
traversing the linear substrate through the device at a given speed to infuse the additives to the linear substrate, wherein when traversing through the device, the linear substrate is in a fluid communication with the modifying fluid, wherein traversing the linear substrate through the device further comprises increasing or decreasing the feed speed of the linear substrate;
defining an exposure length of the linear substrate as a length of the linear substrate that is in the fluid communication with the modifying fluid in the device; and
adjusting the exposure length of the linear substrate based on the feed speed and a predetermined exposure time, wherein adjusting the exposure length of the linear substrate comprises further adjusting the exposure length of the linear substrate based on an acceleration of the linear substrate from the feed speed due to the increase or the decrease of the feed speed and a measurement of infusion level of additives from the modifying fluid in the linear substrate exiting the exposure length, and wherein adjusting the exposure length of the linear substrate based on the measurement of infusion level of additives from the modifying fluid in the linear substrate exiting the exposure length comprises:
increasing the exposure length when the measured infusion level of additive is below a desired infusion level of additive, and
decreasing the exposure length when the measured infusion level of additive is greater than the desired infusion level.
