1. A method for making a natural material-supported palladium catalyst, the method comprising:
mixing a particulate matrix, comprising jute strips comprising α-cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, with a palladium salt in an aqueous solution to form a suspension;
combining the suspension with a borohydride reducing agent to form a mixture; and
heating the mixture to thereby reduce at least 50 wt. % of the palladium salt, relative to total catalytic metal weight, and form a solid-supported palladium catalyst,
wherein the particles of the particulate matrix have no average dimension less than 10 μm, and
wherein the lignin is present in the particulate matrix in a range of from 15 to 30 wt. % relative to total particulate matrix weight.
