1. An assembly comprising:
a syringe comprising a distal neck portion, a barrel, and a proximal flange;
a rigid needle shield removably attached to the syringe; and
a syringe carrier comprising
a c-shaped elongate body comprising a projection extending inward from a distal end of the c-shaped elongate body, the c-shaped elongate body being configured to (i) deflect outward as the syringe is loaded into the syringe carrier in a direction perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the c-shaped elongate body and (ii) return to a non-deflected position in which the projection is disposed in a gap between the barrel of the syringe and the rigid needle shield when the syringe is disposed in the syringe carrier; and
first and second elements extending proximally from the c-shaped elongate body, the first and second elements being configured to contact the syringe to directly restrict proximal movement of the syringe after the syringe has been inserted into the syringe carrier,
wherein the syringe carrier and the syringe are configured such that when the syringe is disposed in the syringe carrier with the distal neck portion of the syringe contacting the projection of the syringe carrier, a distal side of the proximal flange of the syringe is proximally spaced from a proximal side of distal walls of the first and second elements.
