1. An orthopaedic implant comprising:
a passivated titanium substrate;
silver deposited on the titanium substrate to form a silver titanate surface; and
a polymer coating on the silver titanate surface, wherein the polymer coating operable to elute the silver into a patient's body into which the orthopaedic implant is implanted for at least 14 consecutive days.
