1. A method of drilling a varying diameter bore, comprising:
rotating a second actuator portion of an actuator of a bone material removal device in a first rotational drilling direction while pushing a drilling tip of the bone material removal device in a distal direction into a bone of a patient to form an initial bore in the bone of the patient;
wherein said rotating the second actuator portion in the first rotational drilling direction maintains a selectably openable cutting tooth in a closed position; and
reversing the drilling rotational direction by rotating the second actuator portion in a second rotational drilling direction, said second actuator portion rotatably coupled to a first actuator portion, and wherein said rotating of the second actuator portion in the second drilling direction causes the first actuator portion to be displaced distally relative to the second actuator portion, the distal displacement of the first actuator portion distally causing the cutting tooth to extend to an open position.
