1. A controlled quantum logic gate that implements a replacement for an n−1 qubit controlled X gate function to n qubits, wherein n is greater than 4, the controlled quantum logic gate comprising:
a controlled gate that selectively applies, under control of a first subset of then qubits, a pi radian Z-axis Bloch sphere rotation to a target qubit of the n qubits; and
a pair of controlled Hadamard gates that selectively conjugate the target qubit under control of a second subset of the n qubits;
wherein elements of the first subset of the n qubits are mutually exclusive of elements of the second subset of the n qubits.
