1. A method comprising:
receiving, by a local device, a requested camera format from a remote device, the requested camera format including a first resolution, the local device and the remote device participating in a video conference;
determining, at the local device, that the requested camera format is not supported by a predefined configuration of a camera of the local device; and
in response to determining that the requested camera format is not supported by the predefined configuration of the camera, capturing a video stream at the local device at a camera format that utilizes an entire width of a sensor area of the camera when a width dimension of the requested camera format is greater than a height dimension of the requested camera format and utilizes an entire height of the sensor area of the camera when the height dimension of the requested camera format is greater than the width dimension of the requested camera format.
