1. A Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) node comprising:
a plurality of degrees;
one or more fiber/space switches,
wherein each of the plurality of degrees connect to the one or more fiber/space switches, and the one or more fiber/space switches are configured to interconnect any of the plurality of degrees,
wherein each of the plurality of degrees comprises a Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) configured to switch spectral slices, each spectral slice comprising a contiguous swath of optical spectrum, and
wherein the one or more fiber/space switches provide a dynamically reconfigurable partial-mesh interconnection between the plurality of degrees, such that only degrees requiring interconnection based on traffic demands are interconnected.
