1. A system comprising:
a client device comprising a processor and memory, wherein the client device executes a client application, wherein the client device is configured to, in response to a request from a user to access the client application:
determine that biometric authentication is required to access the client application;
capture at least one image of the user using at least one image sensor associated with the client device;
perform a process to authenticate the user based upon the at least one image using a biometric authentication model, wherein the biometric authentication model is separate from a system level facial recognition capability of the client device and has been trained using an image dataset associated with a population of users authorized to access the client application; and
authorize access to the application according to an output of the biometric authentication model.
