1. A method for distributing routes in a network, the method comprising:
storing, at forwarding hardware of a packet processor on a first network device, a set of entries for a first set of routes and a second set of routes;
determining that the first set of routes has higher priority than the second set of routes;
establishing, by the first network device, a border gateway protocol (BGP) session with a second network device;
after establishing the BGP session, sending, by the first network device, the first set of routes via first advertisements to the second network device prior to sending the second set of routes via second advertisements to the second network device based on the first set of routes having higher priority than the second set of routes.
