1. A computer-implemented method comprising:
inducing, by a monitoring device having a processor, a voltage at a component of a surge protection device;
measuring, by an analog to digital converter component that is separate, but coupled to the processor, the voltage induced at the component of the surge protection device;
determining, by the monitoring device, a status of the component of the surge protection device responsive to the measured induced voltage; and
generating, by the monitoring device, an output based on the determined status of the component of the surge protection device.
