1. An evaporative cooling tower, comprising:
a volume of fill media for passage of water downward therethrough;
a means for moving air vertically upward through said fill media;
a means for distributing water across an upper surface of said fill media;
a water collection system positioned below said fill media, said water collection system comprising air flow paths therethrough such that air may pass upwardly through said water collection system while water flowing downwardly out of said fill media is collected and flows to a basin, and wherein said water collection system comprises a plurality of spaced apart troughs, one or more of said troughs spanning said cooling tower fill media, each of said troughs comprising a pair of upper edges, one or more of said troughs comprising an angled baffle extending from one of said upper edges, and an air flow space above the other edge, whereby water flowing downwardly from said fill media flows onto said baffle and into said trough, and wherein air flow is through spaces between said troughs and through said air flow space above said edge of said troughs.
