1. A system comprising:
a kinematic implantable device configured to be associated with a body part of a patient and to operate based on initial configuration information to collect data during a first energy consumption period having a maximum energy consumption and during a second energy consumption period having a maximum energy consumption, wherein a summation of the respective maximum energy consumptions does not exceed a total energy that a battery is configured to provide to electronic circuitry of the kinematic implantable device, the kinematic implantable device comprising, a processing circuit, a timing circuit configured to activate the processing circuit a number of times per day, and a plurality of sensors, each sensor configured to generate a signal in response to movement of the kinematic implantable device, wherein the processing circuit, when active, is configured to activate a set of the plurality of sensors to sample the signals generated by the active sensors at a sampling rate specified as a number of cycles per second and at a resolution specified as a number of bits;
a base station comprising:
a radio configured to communicate with the kinematic implantable device;
a network communication interface configured to communicate with a network server;
a memory configured to store instructions and data; and
a processor coupled to the memory and configured to execute the instructions to thereby:
receive configuration change information for the kinematic implantable device from the network server, the configuration change information comprising a change to at least one parameter of a first plurality of parameters that specify a first low-power mode and a first high-power mode of the first energy consumption period, and a second plurality of parameters that specify a second low-power mode and a second high-power mode of the second energy consumption period, wherein the change to the at least one parameter maintains the summation of the respective maximum energy consumptions at or below the total energy that the battery is configured to provide to electronic circuitry of the kinematic implantable device, and modifies the set of sensors activated by the processing circuit to include three accelerometers and three gyroscopes; and
provide the configuration change information to the kinematic implantable device, wherein the kinematic implantable device is configured to operate based on the configuration change information.
