1. A height-adjustable desktop stand unit comprising:
a main surface assembly designed to accommodate a monitor or laptop, the main surface assembly having left, right, front, and back sides relatively to a user of the monitor or laptop;
an upper frame attached to a bottom of the main surface assembly and a lower frame adapted to rest on an upper surface of a work area;
a secondary surface assembly slideably attached in parallel to the front side of said main surface assembly, wherein the direction of movement of the secondary surface is perpendicular to the left and right side of the main surface; and
an elevation mechanism provided between the upper frame and the lower frame;
wherein the elevation mechanism comprises two pairs of scissor arms, wherein each pair of scissor arms comprises a first arm and a second arm, wherein the first arm is pivotally attached at one end to the upper frame and slidably attached at an opposite end to the lower frame, and wherein the second arm is pivotally attached at one end to the lower frame and slidably attached at an opposite end to the upper frame s;
wherein the two pairs of scissor arms are oriented from the left side to the right side of the main surface assembly when viewed by the user;
wherein the elevation mechanism on activation adjusts a space between the upper frame and the lower frame by causing the slidably attached ends of the arms to move toward or away from each other, thereby changing a height of the main surface assembly above the upper surface of the work area.
