1. An apparatus, comprising:
a plurality of non-volatile drives on which protection groups of a selected type are implemented and on which data associated with a plurality of application images is stored;
at least one compute node configured to manage access of the non-volatile drives, the at least one compute node comprising at least one processor and non-transitory computer-readable memory; and
a self-healing controller configured to relocate data from at least one of the protection groups associated with a failed one of the drives to at least one of the protection groups that is not associated with the failed drive responsive to detection of failure of the failed drive.
