1. A power supply to drive a consumer component operable in any one of a plurality of power states, said power supply comprising:
a power stage to drive said consumer component to a desired power state of said plurality of power states; and
a phase controller to control the power stage to cause said power stage to drive said consumer component to said desired power state, wherein said phase controller comprises:
a pin;
an impedance network configurable to provide at said pin a first impedance when said desired power state is a first power state and a second impedance when said desired power state is a second power state; and
an internal controller to configure said impedance network to provide said first impedance at said pin when said desired power state is said first power state, and said second impedance at said pin when said desired power state is said second power state,
wherein said power stage is designed to source an electrical current to said pin and sense the corresponding electrical voltage at said pin, wherein said power stage examines a magnitude of said sensed electrical voltage to determine whether said desired power state is said first power state or said second power state.
