1. A head mounted display system to display an image, the head mounted display system comprising:
a display engine to generate light for an image for display;
the system configured to apply color specific settings to a first subset of colors of the light, such that the first subset of colors has different settings than a second subset of colors of the light, such that the image has at least two different pixel resolutions for different subsets of colors within the image; and
an optical combiner to output one or more colors of light to generate the image, the optical combiner comprising:
a first waveguide to output the first subset of the colors of light to generate an image for display; and
a second waveguide to output the second subset of the colors of light to generate the image;
wherein the second waveguide has greater tolerance of thickness variation and warp than the first waveguide.
