1. A method, comprising:
identifying a portion of a log file stored in a data store of a host computing device in a hosted computing environment, wherein the host computing device includes a plurality of software containers instantiated thereon, wherein the plurality of software containers share hardware resources of the host computing device;
obtaining a filesystem directory of a location within the data store where the log file is stored;
parsing the filesystem directory to determine an identity of a software container that generated the portion of the log file;
generating metadata using the determined identity of the software container; and
communicating the portion of the log file and the generated metadata to a computing device of a distributed processing system, wherein the computing device generates an event using the portion of the log file and associated the generated metadata with the generated event.
