1. A method for updating a map model, the method comprising:
transmitting a map update request to a computing device onboard a vehicle, wherein the map update request comprises a request for data associated with one or more specified attributes of a location, wherein the one or more specified attributes of the location specify at least one attribute in addition to location information of the location;
receiving data pertaining to the location, responsive to the map update request, from the computing device onboard the vehicle, wherein the data comprises data collected by one or more sensors onboard the vehicle and describes the one or more specified attributes of the location;
comparing the received data pertaining to the location to historical data pertaining to the same location, wherein the historical data describes one or more attributes of the location, and wherein the historical data is used in one or more historical internal models;
generating, via a map service provider database, a modified internal model for the location based at least in part upon a comparison of the received data pertaining to the location and the historical data pertaining to the same location; and
publishing, via a map service provider database, the modified internal model such that the modified internal model is accessible to a computing device onboard the vehicle only in an instance in which (i) one or more attributes of the modified internal model comprise a confidence score that satisfies a threshold and (ii) the modified internal model differs from the historical data pertaining to the same location by at least a predefined percent or amount, wherein the confidence score of an attribute of the one or more attributes is adjusted using a sliding scale where, for a first number of instances that the attribute in the received data matches a same attribute in the historical data, the confidence score of the attribute is increased by a first value and, for a second number of instances that the attribute in the received data matches the same attribute in the historical data, the confidence score of the attribute is increased by a second value, less than the first value, and wherein the map service provider database utilizes a mapping software to generate and update one or more internal models.
