1. A media device comprising:
a memory to store a hearing profile for the media device; and
a processor coupled to the memory and configured to:
send a hearing profile update request to an external device which is separate from the media device, wherein the hearing profile update request comprises captured audio that represents a local audio environment of the media device and metadata that characterizes the local audio environment of the captured audio,
receive from the external device an update to the hearing profile in response to the hearing profile update request, and
store in the memory an updated hearing profile that is in accordance with the update.
