1. A method comprising:
receiving, on a first user device associated with a first user, a media content item from a second user device associated with a second user, wherein the media content item is an ephemeral message;
causing display of the received media content item on a graphical user interface of the first user device;
while causing display of the received media content item, receiving a selection of a selectable user interface element that is superimposed onto the received media content item from the graphical user interface of the first user device;
in response to receiving the selection of the selectable user interface element that is superimposed onto the received media content item,
saving the media content item to a conversation thread between the first user and the second user, wherein the conversation thread is a pre-existing conversation thread between the first user and the second user; and
causing display of an indication that the media content item is saved within the conversation thread.
