1. A terminal station, comprising:
a receiver which, in operation, receives a first physical protocol data unit (PPDU) including a first orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol that is a legacy signal field, a second OFDM symbol arranged right after the first OFDM symbol, and one or more third OFDM symbols that are a first signal field arranged after the second OFDM symbol, the first signal field containing resource allocation information for multi-user transmission; and
circuitry, which, in operation, determines a format of the first PPDU,
wherein the second OFDM symbol is derived from the legacy signal field for distinguishing the format of the first PPDU from a format of a second PPDU that does not contain the resource allocation information for multi-user transmission,
wherein binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation mapping of data subcarriers of the second OFDM symbol in the format of the first PPDU is different from BPSK modulation mapping of data subcarriers of the second OFDM symbol in the format of the second PPDU,
wherein a pilot pattern of the second OFDM symbol in the format of the first PPDU is same as a pilot pattern of the second OFDM symbol in the format of the second PPDU,
wherein, in the BPSK modulation mapping of data subcarriers of the second OFDM symbol in the format of the first PPDU, an input bit “0” is mapped to a symbol “−1”, while an input bit “1” is mapped to a symbol “+1” in an in-phase and quadrature (IQ) plane, and
wherein, in the BPSK modulation mapping of data subcarriers of the second OFDM symbol in the format of the second PPDU, the input bit “0” is mapped to the symbol “+1” while the input bit “1” is mapped to the symbol “−1” in the IQ plane.
