1. A modem configured for use in any one of a satellite, a user terminal and a satellite access gateway, the modem comprising:
a processor; and
a non-transitory computer readable storage media storing instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
configuring a radio frequency (RF) signal; and
transmitting the RF signal to a device, wherein the RF signal comprises an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal having a radio frame comprising one or more bursts, wherein:
a respective burst of the one or more bursts comprises one or more of: a first portion comprising burst detection data, a second portion comprising channel characteristic estimation data, a third portion comprising payload data, a fourth portion comprising pilot data or a fifth portion comprising further pilot data;
the first portion comprises a pseudo-random noise sequence inserted in a time domain; and
symbol scrambling is applied to one or more of the second portion, the third portion, the fourth portion, or the fifth portion using a second pseudo-random noise sequence with initial varied state for each user associated with the respective burst.
