1. A method for controlling a system comprising an integrated renewable energy source (RES) and energy storage system (ESS), the method comprising:
determining a peak power threshold to limit a peak power output of the system to an electric grid, wherein the peak power threshold is determined based at least in part on (a) a time-dependent forecast of electrical energy production by the RES, wherein the time-dependent forecast includes a set of time values of a specified interval, and (b) a state of charge (SOC) schedule, wherein the peak power threshold minimizes inverter curtailing of RES generation during the specified interval while satisfying the SOC schedule, wherein minimizing inverter curtailing reduces clipping of excess power from the RES generation to a minimum and wherein satisfying the SOC schedule includes ensuring the ESS has at least a target charge during the specified interval; and
generating a time-varying control signal based at least in part on the peak power threshold, wherein the time-varying control signal is used to control charging and discharging of the ESS thereby ensuring the SOC schedule of the ESS is satisfied.
