1. A wind-powered electricity generating system comprising:
a turbine section comprising:
a duct having a bottom wall, a top wall, an inner wall, and an outer wall, each of the inner wall and the outer wall being coupled to and extending between the bottom wall and the top wall, each of the inner wall and the outer wall having a cylindrical shape, an outer channel being defined between the inner wall and the outer wall, an inner chamber being defined within the inner wall, the inner wall having an aperture extending therethrough, the outer wall having an opening extending therethrough;
a shaft being mounted in the inner chamber of the duct and being oriented vertically;
an arm being coupled to and extending radially from the shaft, the arm extending through a circumferential slot in the inner wall of the duct;
a paddle being coupled to the arm and being positioned in the outer channel of the duct, the paddle being movable through the outer channel in each of a first rotational direction and a second rotational direction opposite the first rotational direction around the inner wall;
a door being coupled to the outer wall of the duct and being movable between an open position and a closed position with respect to the opening, the door being angled when in the open position such that the door is configured to direct air flowing through the opening to move in the first rotational direction around the inner wall, the door being positioned adjacent to the aperture of the inner wall such that the door is configured to direct air flowing through the outer channel in the first direction through the associated aperture into the inner chamber;
wherein the paddle is configured to be moved by the air through the outer channel in the first rotational direction when the air flows through the outer channel in the first rotational direction;
the turbine section having an outlet extending through the top wall to the inner chamber; and
a generator being operatively coupled to the shaft of the turbine section.
