1. A telematics system, comprising:
a network;
a telematics server;
a telematics device coupled to an asset communications bus of an asset, the telematics device including a controller, a memory storing machine-executable programming instructions for execution by the controller, an asset interface, and a network interface;
wherein:
the machine-executable programming instructions configure the telematics device to operate in a first mode in which the telematics device obtains asset data by sending request frames, over the asset interface, to the asset;
the telematics server determines that the telematics device must operate in a non-interfering mode in which the telematics device does not send request frames over the asset interface to the asset;
the telematics server sends, to the telematics device, a first command to cause the telematics device to operate in the non-interfering mode; and
the machine-executable programming instructions further configure the telematics device to enable the non-interfering mode in response to receiving, via the network interface, the first command from the telematics server over the network.
