1. A method of mesh geometry coding comprising:
mapping depth information to a luma channel using fewer than all available bits, wherein mapping the depth information to the luma channel includes using M bits of N available bits, where M is less than N;
generating a depth scaling factor which is incorporated into a bilinear interpolation algorithm used during rasterization, wherein generating the depth scaling factor utilizes two remaining bits of the N available bits; and
performing normal filtering including adjusting positions of vertices according to an estimated normal from surface pixels.
