1. An illumination device comprising:
a light source emitting light comprising a first polarization and a second polarization; and
a plurality of metasurface elements arranged in a planar array such that the light emitted from the light source passes through the planar array of metasurface elements,
wherein the plurality of metasurface elements are disposed on a substrate,
wherein the light from the light source having the first polarization which passes through the planar array of metasurface elements produces a first light pattern,
wherein the light from the light source having the second polarization which passes through the planar array of metasurface elements produces a second light pattern,
wherein the first light pattern and the second light pattern are complementary dot patterns,
wherein the first light pattern and the second light pattern are projected on the same region of space, and
wherein the first light pattern and the second light pattern are different patterns that correspond to different measurements.
