An isolated subtilisin variant comprising a set of substitutions comprising S53G-S78N wherein the subtilisin variant has at least 90% amino acid sequence identity with the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1, and wherein said substitutions are at positions equivalent to the positions of BPN′ subtilisin set forth in SEQ ID NO:1.
