1. A method of applying neural stimuli, the method comprising:
monitoring for at least one of sensory input and movement by measuring neural activity upon a neural pathway,
applying neural stimuli to the neural pathway based on a detected sensory input or movement, the neural stimuli having a stimulation dose level above a threshold, and
controlling application of the neural stimuli by selectively applying the neural stimuli or adjusting the stimulation dose level during a period of time associated with the detected sensory input or movement,
wherein the step of controlling application of the neural stimuli comprises timing the application of the neural stimuli to coincide with the detected sensory input or movement.
