1. An image decoding method, the method comprising:
deriving a co-located subblock corresponding to a current subblock using motion information of a spatial neighboring block of a current block, wherein the current subblock is a subblock of the current block, wherein the co-located subblock is a subblock of a co-located block corresponding to the current block in a co-located image;
deriving a subblock-based temporal merge candidate for the current block based on motion information of the co-located subblock; and
generating a merge candidate list including the subblock-based temporal merge candidate,
wherein the subblock-based temporal merge candidate is derived from motion information of a subblock at the predefined position in the co-located block when the motion information of the co-located subblock is unavailable, and
wherein the subblock at the predefined position is a subblock located at the center of the co-located block.
