1. An energy storage system comprising:
a first housing unit comprising:
a battery management system arranged to monitor and control operations associated with charging and discharging electrical current from a first storage element, the battery management system being positioned within a cavity of the first housing unit;
a site controller arranged to coordinate one or more operations of the energy storage system with a component of a power distribution system, the site controller being positioned with the cavity of the first housing unit;
the first storage element configured to receive one or more first battery cells; and
a frame defining the cavity of the first housing unit, the frame comprising a first side panel, second side panel, and a front access panel, the front access panel comprising at least one hinge in proximity to the first side panel, the hinge being arranged to prevent a portion of the front access panel from extending beyond an edge of the first side panel as the access panel rotates from a closed position to an open position;
a first connector element arranged to enable the first housing unit to detachably connect to a second housing unit; and
the second housing comprising:
a second storage element configured to receive one or more second battery cells;
a second connector element arranged to enable the second housing unit to detachably connect, cooperatively with the first connector element, to the first housing unit.
