1. A negative electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, comprising:
a carbonaceous material having a nitrogen content of 3.5 mass % or more as measured by elemental analysis,
wherein
a ratio of the nitrogen content and a hydrogen content (RN/H) is 6 or more and 100 or less,
a ratio of an oxygen content and the nitrogen content (RO/N) is 0.1 or more and 1.0 or less, and
a carbon interplanar spacing (d002) of the carbonaceous material observed by X-ray diffraction measurement is 3.70 Å or more.
