1. A method for monitoring an environmental parameter using image analytics, said method comprising:
capturing, using an image sensor, an image of a monitored area that includes at least a first sensor patch, said first sensor patch including a first region comprising a first chromic material responsive to the environmental parameter;
filtering the image for at least one encounterable color of a plurality of encounterable colors of the first sensor patch, said plurality of encounterable colors including a range of possible colors of said first chromic material, using an electronic processor, to detect the first sensor patch at a location in the image, including:
isolating the first sensor patch in the image based on the plurality of encounterable colors;
maintaining one or more portions of the image corresponding to the first sensor patch; and
discarding a remaining portion of the image to obtain a resulting image including the first sensor patch and excluding other features;
extracting from the image at the location, using the electronic processor, a color of the first chromic material in the first region; and
determining a value of the environmental parameter based at least on the color of the first chromic material.
