1. A system including a server and a physically remote mobile device having a camera and a processor configured to perform an interactive augmented reality method, the processor configured to:
receive access to a collaborative object stored on the server;
determine a hand gesture made by a single hand of a user of the physically remote mobile device using the camera;
track a path of the hand gesture within a real-world view of the camera that is displayed on the physically remote mobile device as a displayed image;
identify an image segment of the real-world view in the displayed image within an outline corresponding to the path of the hand gesture; and
add the image segment to the collaborative object to generate a modified collaborative object, wherein the user cannot access virtual content added by other users to the collaborative object until a collaboration period ends.
