1. A method of off-loading a location service from an operating system to a wireless communication chipset of a communication device, the method comprising:
measuring, in the wireless communication chipset of the communication device, a distance between the communication device and a wireless communication device;
determining, in the wireless communication chipset of the communication device, that the distance is within a threshold distance; and
implementing the location service, using the wireless communication chipset of the communication device, based on the determining that the distance is within the threshold distance, wherein implementing the location service using the wireless communication chipset of the communication device consumes less power compared to implementing the location service using the operating system.
