1. A method of positioning a bone stabilization construct in a bone having a head and a shaft defining an intramedullary canal, the method comprising:
providing an intramedullary nail implant, the intramedullary nail implant including:
a distal portion including a shaft extending along a central axis and configured for positioning within the intramedullary canal, wherein the distal portion defines a slot, and the slot includes a rack with a plurality of teeth extending into the slot; and
a proximal portion extending proximally from the distal portion, the proximal portion defining a contact surface which extends at least in part medially of the central axis and which is configured to extend within the head of the bone;
providing a screw;
positioning the intramedullary nail implant in the intramedullary canal of the bone using a guide, the guide having a longitudinal body and a connecting arm attached to the proximal portion of the intramedullary nail implant;
creating a hole in the bone near the slot and inserting a pinion gear pin through the hole such that the pinion gear pin meshes with the teeth of the slot;
detaching the connecting arm from the proximal portion of the intramedullary nail implant after the intramedullary nail implant has been positioned in the intramedullary canal;
adjusting a position of the positioned intramedullary nail implant relative to the bone using the inserted pinion gear pin; and
positioning the screw into the created hole.
