1. A biological sample collection system, comprising:
a sample collection vessel having an opening for receiving a biological sample;
a sealing cap comprising a reagent chamber and a sample preservation reagent within the reagent chamber, the sealing cap being configured to removably associate and form a fluid tight connection with the sample collection vessel; and
a selectively movable valve at least partially disposed in the sealing cap and configured to retain the sample preservation reagent within the reagent chamber when in a closed configuration, the selectively movable valve comprising:
a core having a fluid vent with an entrance aperture through a side of the core and an exit aperture through a bottom of the core; and
a collar non-threadedly disposed about and forming a fluid tight association with the core and obstructing the entrance aperture of the fluid vent when the selectively movable valve is in the closed configuration; and
wherein associating the sealing cap with the sample collection vessel causes a physical rearrangement via non-threaded movement of the core relative to the collar such that the fluid vent of the core is placed into fluid communication with the reagent chamber, thereby causing or allowing the sample preservation reagent to pass from the reagent chamber to the sample collection vessel.
