1. A method comprising:
authenticating, by an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) in a wireless communication network, a wireless communication device;
in response, determining, by the AMF, status information for the wireless communication device;
loading, by the AMF, the status information to a Unified Data Registry (UDR) via a Unified Data Management (UDM);
receiving, by a Call State Control Function (CSCF) of an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), a request for a multimedia call for the wireless communication device and retrieving, by the CSCF, the status information from the UDR via a Home Subscriber System (HSS);
selecting, by a Telephony Application Server (TAS) of the IMS, an access network type to support the multimedia call for the wireless communication device based on the status information, wherein the access network type comprises at least one of Fifth Generation New Radio (5GNR) or WiFi; and
signaling, by the AMF, the wireless communication device to use the selected access network type wherein the wireless communication device uses the selected access network type to participate in the multimedia call.
