1. A host vehicle for dynamic switching physical layer (PHY) configuration, comprising:
a transceiver configured to operate in a plurality of modes, the plurality of modes including a first mode in which the transceiver supports communications without forward error correction and or in a second mode in which the transceiver provides forward error correction and enhanced non-line-of-sight (NLOS) performance with higher current usage than in the first mode; and
a telematics control unit (TCU), programmed to
receive trigger parameters indicative of whether to dynamically switch between the plurality of modes of the transceiver, including information indicative of speed of the host vehicle,
responsive to first trigger conditions being met by the trigger parameters, the first trigger conditions including the speed of the host vehicle exceeding a predefined threshold speed indicative of highway driving, transition the PHY configuration of the transceiver from the first mode to the second mode, and
responsive to second trigger conditions being met by the trigger parameters, the second trigger conditions including the speed of the host vehicle not exceeding the predefined threshold speed, transition the PHY configuration of the transceiver from the second mode to the first mode.
