1. A method performed by a server for a parent account to manage access to and monitor progress through resources in a nicknamed child account for a child and to acquire more resources, the method comprising:
receiving, by the server, a registration request with a nickname other than the child's real name from the parent account to set up the nicknamed child account, wherein the registration request does not include personally identifying information for the child;
enabling resource access, for the child, via the nicknamed child account on a device;
receiving an e-book request from the parent account to assign one or more e-books to the nicknamed child account, wherein the e-book request includes a child account identifier associated with the nicknamed child account;
assigning the one or more e-books to the device, based on the nicknamed child account and authorizing the device to display content of the one or more e-books to the child;
receiving activity data and tracking the activity data for the child and the assigned one or more e-books;
receiving a purchase request, from the nicknamed child account, to buy an e-book from an electronic bookstore; and
notifying the parent account of the purchase request.
