1. A method comprising:
detecting, by a user device associated with a user account, at least one wireless communication from a chip associated with a payment card with an inactive status,
wherein the at least one wireless communication is transmitted from a radio-frequency transmitter included in the payment card or a container for the payment card;
sending, to a card activation system, a request for activation of the payment card, wherein the request includes at least one of a card identifier or an account identifier from the at least one wireless communication from the radio-frequency transmitter; and
in response to a verification that the card identifier or the account identifier is associated with the user account,
receiving, by the user device, a card activation notification associated with the payment card, and
presenting, in a user interface of the user device, a card activation workflow in an application executing on the user interface, wherein use of the card activation workflow causes transitioning of the payment card from the inactive status to an active status.
