19. A system comprising:
a source for generating a pencil beam of protons;
a scanning element for steering the pencil beam of protons;
a plurality of tracking detectors for generating photons, the photons corresponding to the pencil beam of protons interacting with an object;
a residual range detector; and
a computing system for receiving signals from the plurality of tracking detectors and the residual range detector, the computing system configured to:
perform image registration to account for differences between an original image and an updated image;
update an original RSP map corresponding to the original image using individual proton measurement data, wherein the individual proton measurement data are associated with the updated image;
compare the updated RSP map to the original RSP map, wherein the original image corresponds to the original RSP map; and
quantify changes between the updated map and the original RSP map.
