1. A method at a sensor module within a sensor system for communicating with a gateway, the method comprising:
simultaneously storing a first timing profile and a second timing profile for communications with the gateway;
using the first timing profile in a first mode of operation;
powering down a processor of the sensor module;
waking up the processor of the sensor module;
determining that the sensor module is operating in a second mode of operation; and
using the second timing profile at the sensor module for communicating with the gateway.
