1. A method of processing a data message at a first virtual private cloud (VPC) defined in a public cloud, the method comprising:
at a transit gateway device executing in the transit, first VPC:
receiving the data message from a source machine in a second VPC defined in the public cloud for a first tenant;
performing a service operation on the data message by (i) forwarding the data message to a set of one or more service appliances in the public cloud to perform a set of one or more network services, and (ii) receiving the data message from the set of service appliances after the set of network services has been performed; and
forwarding the data message to a destination machine outside of the first and second VPCs.
