1. A cathode for an ion battery, the cathode comprising:
a current collector; and
one or more structures each comprising a manganese oxide,
wherein the one or more structures are disposed on the current collector and are in electrical contact with the current collector, and
wherein one or more pillaring agents are stored between sheets of the manganese oxide.

41. A cathode for an ion battery, the cathode comprising:
a current collector;
one or more structures each comprising one or more members selected from the group consisting of a manganese oxide, an aluminosilicate, and an aluminum-accepting polymer, wherein the one or more structures comprise particles; and
a plurality of conductive pillars protruding from the current collector,
wherein the one or more structures are disposed on the current collector and are in electrical contact with the current collector and the particles are disposed on the plurality of conductive pillars.
